GENERAL ASSISTANCE FINDING A JOB

Program description

Goodwill’s Resource Centers are designed for people who want to pursue a job search on their own, but could benefit from a structured and supportive atmosphere. The centers provide all the materials necessary to complete the job-search process. Services are available for anyone, regardless of their involvement in other Goodwill programs. People who need minimal assistance can use the facility independently, choosing only the services they desire. For those who require more assistance, a full-time staff person is available to guide and monitor activities. There is no cost to use the resources.

Services vary at each location, but generally include:

• Extensive employer files containing current job postings, benefit information, application procedures and company profiles
• Computer access to State Job Bank (WorkOne and Goodwill sites only)
• Computer access to Federal Job Bank (at WorkOne Downtown only)
• The Indianapolis Star classified advertisements and other employment publications
• Telephones and phone books
• Computer stations for composing resumés and related correspondence
• Computer access to career exploration software
• Resumé service to help individuals create or update their resumé
• A complete library of materials on career exploration and all facets of the job search

Workshops are also available including:
• Identifying Job Leads and Telephone Etiquette
• Completing Applications
• Writing Your Resumé
• Interviewing
• Job Retention Techniques — How to Successfully Keep Your Job

Individual sessions may be scheduled with the Resource Centers' staff. Assistance is available for:
• Career exploration
• Aptitude testing
• Typing test
• Individual assistance with resumes and applications
